Druk Yul or the land of the thunder dragon - Bhutan is well-known for maintaining its pristine environment as carbon negative country in the world. The people of Bhutan are very friendly and have devotion towards Mahayana Buddhism. History

Even though the civilization here dates to thousands of years, the 8th century when lord Padmasamvaba introduced Buddhism in Bhutan is the beginning of known history. Padmasambhava was the first Dalai Lama, who introduced Buddhism in Tibet as well. Bhutan has always been a Monarchy till date.

Culture

Bhutan is predominantly Buddhist and the religion dictates the way of life in Bhutan. There are many festivals and celebrations, but the New Year is the biggest celebration. Dzongkha is the most widely spoken language, but people also speak Assamese and Nepalese.  Bhutanese cuisine is very rich and widely uses cheese and chilies.
