Overview

Baruntse Himal Expedition takes you all the way up to the zenith of Baruntse Peak at an altitude of 7129 meters.  Baruntse Himal, with its 4 ridges and summits, is an asymmetrical peak and considered one of the most exquisite peaks in Nepal. In your journey to Baruntse peak, you will witness the true beauty of remote Nepal marked by Mount Everest (8848 meters), Mount Lhotse (8516 meters), Dudh Kosi river, glaciers, alpine lakes, Mera La Pass and so much more.

Nestled amongst the 2 biggest mountains in the world, Mount Baruntse is one of the most popular mountains in the range of 7000 meters. This peak was first climbed or conquered by Coil Tood and Geof Harrow in 1954. Ever since a lot of adventure enthusiasts have tried and got on the apogee of Baruntse Himal.

As a part of the Baruntse Himal Expedition, you will cross dense forests of rhododendron, pine, oaks, firs, and bamboo. This tour will take you to the attractions of the Everest region of Nepal like Mera La Pass (5350 meters), Baruntse Base Camp (5300 meters), Mera Peak, Barun glacier, Amphulapcha Base Camp (5650 meters), etc.

This expedition is quite challenging but with proper guidance from our seasoned guides, caution, leadership, necessary gears, safety equipment, etc, this expedition can be one hell of an enthralling journey that you will remember till your last moments.

Itinerary

Arrival: Kathmandu > Departure: Kathmandu

Arrival in TIA, Kathmandu (1350 meters)

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu), you will meet our representative who will assist you to collect your luggage and then escort you to the hotel room which is booked for you by the Greater Himalaya Team. You can get refreshed and relax for a while in a hotel room. Later today, you will gather again for dinner and exchange our greetings. We will host a welcome dinner for you in a Nepali restaurant where you can try some delicious Nepali delicate and cuisines. Overnight stay at a 3-star category hotel in Thamel.

Kathmandu Sightseeing tour and Expedition preparation day

We will arrange a tour guide for you and you can onset exploring the heritages and attractions of Kathmandu valley. These attractions are Pashupatinath, Swambhunath, Boudhanath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, etc. These attractions are among the UNESCO World heritage sites and they represent the deep history, cultural and religious values of Nepal. We will also prepare for the expedition and help you buy or rent out trekking or mountain climbing essentials. Overnight stay at the home hotel as room as night before.

Kathmandu to Lukla domestic flight and trek to Paiya (2800 meters)

Today we will fly from Kathmandu to Lukla in the morning. Lukla airstrip happens to be one of the most adventurous and highly situated airports in the world. So, it won’t be wrong to say that your adventure begins from today itself. During your flight, the views of mountains in Eastern Nepal will be seen on a clear day from the flight itself. In Lukla, you will meet guides and porters, and other trek partners. 
After breakfast in Lukla, we will head towards Paiya via a trail that passes down a jungle. Along the journey, you will witness tropical forest, verdant hills, mountain peaks, and several settlements. We will stay overnight in Paiya.

Paiya to Pangkoma (2850 meters): About 5-6 hours of trek

Today we will trek towards Pangkoma located at 2850 meters crossing several bridges and forests of rhododendron and bamboo. En route, we will pass through Kari La Pass and proceed with trekking. Along the trek today, you will enjoy the magnificent landscapes of Dudhkoshi River valley and Dudh Kund Himal. Eventually, we will reach Pangkoma where we will stay for the night.

Pangkoma to Nashing Dingma (2600 meters): About 4-5 hours of trek

We will trek to Nashing Dingma (2600 meters) from Pangkoma after early morning breakfast in Pangkoma. En route lies Pangkoma La at 3173 meters from where you can see astounding views of Mera Peak. Our trail progresses through the verdant forest of rhododendron and bamboo. So, you will be hearing birds chirping along the forested trekking route. Overnight we shall stay in Nashing Dingma.

Trek from Nashing Dingma to Chalem Kharka (3600 meters)

On the sixth day of the tour we will be gaining some serious altitude (around 1000 meters) and trek for about 6 to 7 hours. We will ascend in a steep trail which will lead us to Surke La. Today also we will be walking in a forested trail through the verdant forest before reaching Chalem Kharka. Chalem Kharka is a stunning village surrounded by trees of rhododendron and

Trek from Chalem Kharka to Chunbu Khaka (4200 meters).

Eventually, the green forest line slowly starts to disappear and a more prominent snowline shows up as we trek towards Chunbu Kharka (4200 meters). We will trek in a rugged trail while also relishing brilliant views of the snow valleys, mountains, peaks, and pastures. We shall stay overnight in Chunbu Kharka. You will get glimpses of majestic Kanchenjunga (8586 meters) from Chunbu Kharka.

Trek from Chunbu Kharka to Khote (4200 meters).

Today is quite easy since we will be trekking just for 2-4 hours. We will traverse Hinku valley via the west bank of a river and inch towards Khote (4200 meters) looking at several stunning sights like snow-covered peaks and pastures, an alpine meadow, and of course, the epic tranquility. Overnight stay at a small village of Khote.

Trek from Khote to Tagnang (4320 meters).

Today’s trek from Khote to Tagnag (4320 meters) is truly remarkable given the extraordinary feeling it besieges upon trekkers as they witness mountain peaks like Kusum Kanguru and Mera West. We will commence trekking via the edge of Hinku Khola. We have lunch in one of the herder’s settlements like Gondishung. Ultimately, we will reach Tagnag but not before witnessing Lungsumgba Gomba- a 2-century old monastery with scriptures and writings. We will stay overnight at Tagnang.

Acclimatization day/ Free day

The tenth day of this Baruntse expedition can be a contingency day if we are running late on schedule due to unfavorable weather or any other reasons. If we are on the schedule, we will explore the Tagnang region for acclimatization. We will take a short hike to Charpate Himal Glacier. This glacier is a good vantage point for viewing mesmerizing panoramas of Mera North. After exploring the glacier, we will return back to Tagnang camp or lodge for a night stay.

Trek from Tagnang to Khare (4850 meters).

Today we shall relish the awesome views of Charpate Himal as we trek alongside the lateral moraine of Dig Glacier to Dig Tharka. We will trek for about 3 to 4 hours passing a turquoise lake and Mera (north face of Mera Peak to be precise) before arriving at Khare or Mera Base Camp (4850 meters) where we will stay the night.

Hike to Mera La (5300 meters) from Khare.

We will begin hiking to Mera La (5300 meters) by gradually ascending up onto Mera Glacier. We will take a steep climb which eventually smooths as we reach the crest. We will continue trekking in a rather flat track as we inch towards Mera La. Mera La is an adventurous pass that provides mind-blowing views of Mera Peak (vivid views) and many other peaks in addition to bluish glaciers and plenty of adjoining peaks. Overnight stay at a teahouse or camp.

Trek to Seto Pokhari Camp (4850 meters) from Mera La.

We will descend down a steep track until we reach Khongma Dingma. Trekking along, we will witness the views of Mount Baruntse. We will be trekking amidst the most popular mountains in the world. We will also witness the mighty Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse as we approach Seto Pokhari Camp (White Lake Camp) situated at 4850 meters. Overnight stay at tented camp in Seto Pokhari Camp.

Trek to Baruntse Base Camp at 5300 meters

Today we will trek in one of the remotest and most pristine parts of the Himalayas as we head towards the base camp of Mount Baruntse. As we approach Baruntse Base Camp, we will notice the environment getting more barren and snow-covered. Among many other peaks, we will also see Hunku Peak today. We will stay overnight by building a camp in Baruntse Base Camp just like other expedition crews.

Baruntse peak climbing period (7129 meters)

We will attempt and conquer Baruntse Peak climbing within these days. Some days are dedicated to acclimatization so that you are adjusting well to the altitude. One of the advanced Base Camp will be set up at an elevation of 6000 meters at the bottom of South East Bridge. Another camp (Camp 1) is located at an altitude of 6450 meters. The route demands us to climb up a slope of 45 degrees thus making it quite taxing. You need not worry though, you will have the necessary training and assistance from our experienced Sherpa guides.

Trek to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (5650 meters)

After some busy and hectic days of climbing Baruntse Peak, we will trek down to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp situated at 5650 meters. For this, we will trek towards Imja valley whilst relishing the picturesque views of Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, and many other adjoining peaks. It takes us about 5 hours to approach Amphu Lapcha BC. We will enjoy the mesmerizing splendor of Amphu Lapcha Pass and stay overnight at a tented camp or a tea house.

Trek from Amphu Lapcha BC to Chukung (4730 meters)

After an adrenaline-filled alpine trekking and climbing experience, we will trek to Chukung located at 4730 meters. This is quite a convenient day which will require us to descend for most of the part. Overnight stay at a lodge or homestay in Chukung.

Trek from Chukung to Pangboche (3930 meters)

As we walk down to Pangboche (3939 meters) from Chukung, we will enter the Khumbu region again. The weather gets more pleasant and the hills seem livelier as we trek down. Before arriving at Pangboche village, we will see the conjunction of Imja Khola and the Dudh Koshi river. We will also visit a popular gompa in Pangboche. This Pangboche gompa is said to be the oldest monastery found in the Khumbu region. Overnight stay at Pangboche.

Trek back to Namche Bazaar (3400 meters) from Pangboche.

We will descend down from arid parts of the Everest region to a greener arena teeming with pine and rhododendron forest. The trekking route brings us to Tengboche where we will pay a visit to the revered Tengboche monastery. Tengboche monastery is a famous monastery in the Everest region and we kid you not when we say the views of Tengboche monastery with mountains in the background will mesmerize you. The final descent of about 500 meters will bring us to Namche Bazar (3400 meters); the gateway to the Everest region and the famous tourist hub of Khumbu. You will make this descend via a forested trail of fir, oaks, and rhododendron forest. 
You can see several Mani walls, stupas, prayer flags, restaurants, banks, bakeries, etc. in Namche Bazar. Even the options for accommodation are quite impressive and more. Feel free to purchase some souvenirs for your loved ones in the colorful Bazar of Namche. Overnight stay at a lodge or hotel in Namche Bazar.

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2800 meters).

Today we will trek from the tourist hub of the Everest region (Namche Bazar) to Lukla. We will mostly trek down a steep descent which leads us to Hillary Suspension bridge. The views in front of us and behind us are simply tantalizing. Trekking for about 6 hours will bring us to a lodge in Lukla where we will stay overnight.

Lukla to Kathmandu domestic flight

You will take a 40-minute domestic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. During the flight, you will view the mountain ranges of the mountainous kingdom of Nepal for one last time. You will be escorted to a hotel room once you land in TIA. Feel free to do whatever you want to with your leisure time.

Contingency day/ Free day

This is a free day that we have reserved if we are running back on schedule. If we are on time and in Kathmandu, you can take a free day to relax, explore Kathmandu valley, rest in your hotel room, stroll around Thamel street and buy souvenirs for your loved ones. We will also host a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate and rejoice in our trip together. Overnight stay at a 3-star category hotel in Kathmandu.

Final Departure

This is the final day of the Baruntse Expedition and we will have you escorted to Tribhuvan International Airport. We will bid you goodbye and you will fly to your home.
