Overview

Jomsom Trek is one of the most sought after and popular treks of the Annapurna region. This trek takes people to the major attractions of Annapurna and remote Nepal like Ghorepani, Poonhill, Kagbeni, Jomsom, and Muktinath. This trek passes through Gurung villages, lush rhododendron forest, deep gorges, varying landscapes, waterfalls, meadows etc.

As a climax of this trek, you will be taken to the stunning and revered Muktinath (3800 meters) which is the highest point of this trek. The popular mountains of the world like Dhaulagiri and Annapurna I besides other peaks like Tukuche, Nilgiri, etc. can be witnessed through this trek.

Located at 3210 meters, Poonhill is a wonderful viewpoint to enjoy the massifs of the Annapurna region. The sunrise and sunset views from Poonhill as Dhaulagiri (8167 meters), Annapurna (8091 meters), and other neighboring mountains are hit by morning sun rays is simply astounding.

Muktinath is a popular Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site located in the heart of the Himalayas. One of the deepest gorges of the world, the Kali Gandaki gorge is another attraction and promising aspect of this trek. Trekking to Muktinath will expose you to picturesque villages of Nepal like Ghorepani, Tatopani, Kagbeni, Marpha, etc. Trekking in the Ghorepani region will provide you all-around (360-degree views) of Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, Machhapuchhre, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, etc.

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu airport and transfer to Hotel.

Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m)

Day 03: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga (1520m)

Day 05: Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2860m); 5 to 6 hours of trek

Day 06: Hike to Poon Hill (3210m) and return to Tatopani (1100m): 6 to 7 hours of trek

Itinerary

Arrival: Kathmandu > Departure: Kathmandu

Arrival at Kathmandu airport and transfer to Hotel

Shortly after you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will meet our representative or staff who will assist you with your luggage and escort you to a predetermined hotel room. Later today, we will host a welcome dinner in a Nepali restaurant with many meal options. Overnight stay at a hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu.

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m)

We will head towards Pokhara from Kathmandu today enjoying the great vistas of thundering rivers, green hills, pristine towns along the way. We will drive past the beautiful Trishuli and Marsyangdi river and enjoy a cool and long drive of 6 to 7 hours to arrive at Pokhara. Also known as the city of lakes, Pokhara is a beautiful valley with tons of offerings for tourists. Boating is one of the many things you can do in Pokhara. Overnight stay at a hotel or lodge in Pokhara.

Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga (1520m)

After a scrumptious breakfast in Pokhara, we will head for Nayapul via a 1.5-hour-long drive. This trek officially begins from Nayapul just like almost all other treks of the Annapurna region of Nepal. After arrival in Nayapul, we will take a brief break and then head towards Tikhedhunga located at an altitude of 1520 meters. En route, we will come across several small settlements, lush hills, forests, waterfalls, rivers, etc. Overnight stay at a lodge in Tikhedhunga.

Trek from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2860m); 5 to 6 hours of trek

Ghorepani is one of the major attractions of the Annapurna region and this is where we are headed today. We will gain some serious altitude today, so it can get somewhat challenging, however, the view is completely worth it eclectic from snow-clad peaks, beautiful waterfalls, pristine countryside aura, and everything else that will replenish you with energy. We will have to conquer the 3000+ steps/staircase for arriving at Ulleri. We will continue ascending and descending for another 2 hours to arrive at Ghorepani which is our overnight stop.

Hike to Poon Hill (3210m) and return to Tatopani (1100m): 6 to 7 hours of trek

The sunrise view from Poonhill is one of the most exquisite things in the world. We will trek from Ghorepani to Poonhill early in the morning rooting for the views of sun rays kissing the glorious mountains. We will the mountains of the Annapurna region like Mount Annapurna, Mount Fishtail, etc. from here. After savoring the moments, and clicking a few pictures, we will trek back to Ghorepani for a hot breakfast. Then we trekking for another 4 hours will bring us to Tatopani- our overnight stop for the day.

Trek from Tatopani to Ghasa (2010m): 6 hours of trek

We will trek crossing several landmarks and utterly beautiful spots like Kali Gandaki river, Kali Gandaki river gorges, Rupsi waterfalls, etc. The views of the hillside and remote Nepali region with mountains bestowing occasionally is utterly gorgeous. We shall approach Ghasa in about 6 hours from Tatopani and stay overnight in Tatopani.

Trek from Ghasa to Marpha (2670m): 6 hours of trek

Soon after we begin trekking from Ghasa, we will approach the Kali Gandaki river and Lete Khola. We will continue ascending which eventually brings us to a beautiful Kalapani village. We will take a lunch break in Kalapani and also enjoy the soothing and magnificent panoramas of Nilgiri, Annapurna I, glaciers, icefalls, and Dhaulagiri. We will trek past Larjung and Tukuche village which will eventually lead us to Marpha where we shall stay the night. Marpha is a great place to be thanks to the white painted houses, tourist-friendly lodges, mountain views, popular local products, etc.

Trek from Marpha to Kagbeni. (2810m) via Jomsom: Approximate 6 hours of trek

We will trek from Kagbeni to Jomsom today. We will trek in a gradually ascending trail to arrive at Jomsom which is one of the major attractions of Jomsom trek. Jomsom is the largest town in the region and it allures a lot of domestic and international tourists to its premise. From here onwards, the trails will lead us to the plains of the Kaligandaki River. We will continue trekking until Kagbeni, our night stop for today.

Trek from Marpha to Muktinath (3800m); About 4 hours of trek

We will trek to the ultimate destination of this trek today- Muktinath. Muktinath is appealing both nature wise and culture-wise. We will trek for about 4 to 5 hours to reach Muktinath from Marpha. Upon reaching Muktinath, you will get baffling views of mountains like Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Nilgiri, etc. Overnight stay at a lodge or camp in Muktinath.

Trek back from Muktinath to Jomsom; About 3 to 4 hours of trek

We will head back to Jomsom after enjoying a glorious time in Muktinath. En route, you will witness dominating views of Mount Dhaulagiri, alpine meadows, lush hills, etc. We will take a lunch break in Kagbeni and continue trekking until we approach Jomsom located at 2720 meters. About 4 hours of trekking from Muktinath will bring us to Jomsom. Jomsom is very tourist friendly with better lodge options, many shops, banks, bakeries, etc. We shall stay overnight in Jomsom.

Jomsom to Pokhara domestic flight

You will fly from Jomsom to Pokhara today. In Pokhara, you can just take a rest or you can get indulged in lake exploring, visiting popular attractions of Pokhara like Davis falls, Mahendra Cave, Gupteshwor cave, etc. You shall be staying the night at a hotel in Pokhara.

Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Looking at the changing landscapes from the window, you will approach Kathmandu via a 7-hour long drive from Pokhara. You will be escorted to a hotel room where you can take a rest or perhaps you can take a stroll around the vivacious streets of Thamel.

Final departure from Kathmandu

We shall escort you to Kathmandu Airport via a tourist bus or a private vehicle and you will head to your home or next destination.
