Overview

Mera Peak Climbing takes you to the apogee of Mera Peak (6476 meters) which happens to be the highest trekking peak in Nepal. As you approach Mera Peak, you will be bestowed with the brilliant vistas of the top-notch mountains in the world like Mount Everest (8848 meters), Mount Kanchenjunga (8586 meters), Mount Lhotse (8516 meters), Mt. Makalu (8485 meters), Mount Cho Oyu (8201 meters) and so much more.

Besides being the highest trekking peaks in Nepal, Mera Peak is also an extremely beautiful peak that provides you all sorts of experience since it is a culturally and socially appealing journey which transverses through the pristine villages, lush forests, picturesque hills, and majestic mountains. Going on this tour will reveal to you Sherpa settlements, moraines, gorges, glaciers, and vegetations of the Everest region, further increasing the charm of this already fascinating trip.

Mera Peak was first climbed by J.O.M Roberts and Sen Tenzing back in 1953 AD. The French climbers (Marcel Jolly, L Hills, and G Bauss) are credited and given the honor of approaching the true apex of Mera North in 1975 AD. Ever since, Mera Peak has been climbed by many trekking enthusiasts. Mera Peak Climbing is also made a part of acclimatization for Climbing Mount Everest.

This itinerary adjusted by Himalayan glacier gives you the flexibility to adjust certain days. In addition to the top-notch mountains, perennial rivers, stunning waterfalls, deep gorges, glaciers, green hills, this tour customized itinerary also encompasses the famous cultural sites of Kathmandu valley.

Itinerary

Arrival: Kathmandu > Departure: Kathmandu

Arrival in TIA, Kathmandu (1,350 meters) & transfer to hotel

Upon your arrival in TIA, one of our (Greater Himalaya team) will pick you up and help you with your luggage. You will be escorted to a 3-star category hotel in the Thamel area where you can get refreshed and stay for a while. Later today, we will host a welcome dinner for you in a typical Nepali restaurant where you can try some Nepali cuisines.  We shall drop you at a hotel after dinner where you can stay overnight.

Kathmandu sightseeing tour and Mera Peak climbing preparation day.

On the second day, we will prepare for the trip and help you buy or rent trekking equipment if you are missing any. We will also arrange a sightseeing tour for you where you explore the UNESCO world heritage sites of Kathmandu like Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Swayambhunath are some on the list today. 
You will be visiting these attractions of Kathmandu valley with a proficient guide who will provide you some background and facts on the sites that you will visit. In the evening, we will debrief you about the trekking route and plans of Mera Peak Climbing.

Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla & trek from Lukla to Paiya (2,730 meters).

We will take a scenic domestic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla early in the morning. This scenic flight provides you views of the Himalayas, forest, rivers, etc. Lukla airport is popular for its high elevation and thrill. After 35 to 40 minutes of flight, we will land in Lukla Hillary airport located at 2860 meters.   
In Lukla, you shall enjoy a hot breakfast at a nearby café and also meet our crews (trekkers, guides, and porters). Together we will head towards Paiya located at 2730 meters. We will trek looking at the gorgeous hills and occasional glimpses of mountains. You shall walk in trail alongside a lush rhododendron and oaks forest to arrive at Paiya where we shall halt for the third day.

Paiya to Panggom (2,846 meters) Trek

We will head toward Panggom in an uneven terrain that takes us to a verdant forest of rhododendron, pine, and bamboo. As the trekking progresses, you will witness magnificent panoramas of the Dudhkoshi River and Dudh Kund Himal. We will reach Panggom in about 6 hours. Pingdom is more tourist-friendly and has nice provisions and amenities for the tourists in lodges.

Panggom to Ningsuwa (2,863 meters)

We will trek to Ningsuwa from Panggom today and we shall stop a while in Panggom La (3286 meters) en route. Panggom La provides an incomparable view of Panggom village. We shall then continue in a narrow way and trek for another 3 hours to arrive at Ningsuwa located at 2863 meters. We shall stay overnight in Ningsuwa.

Ningsuwa to Chhatra Khola (2,800 meters).

Today is quite strenuous since we will be trekking for about 8 hours to approach Chhatra Khola from Ningsuwa. For this, we will trek in a forested trail via a rhododendron and pine forest. You might encounter sloth bears or perhaps elusive red Panda during the trek. We shall continue trekking and halt for a while in ramailo danda where you can take some snaps and enjoy the moment. We will stay overnight in a basic lodge or a teahouse in Chhatra Khola.

Chhatra Khola to Kothe (3,691 meters)

Our destination today is Kothe which is quite tourist friendly given the availability of shops, lodges, and hotels. We will trek uphill via a steep path which eventually becomes less steep. We will trek in a bamboo forested trail and reach Thoktor in about 4 hours where we will stop for lunch. After lunch, we will trek down under the forest of pine and bamboo so as to reach Kothe which is located on the edge of the Hunku river.

Kothe to Thangnag (4,350 meters)

As we trek from Kothe to Thangnag, you will notice the sky dominating the vistas of Mera Peak. We will trek in the west bank of Hinku and continue trekking and make a brief halt at 200-year-old Lungsum Gompa. We shall stay overnight at one of the lodges in Thangnag located at 4350 meters.

Explore Thangnag: Acclimatization day in Thangnag.

We will take a day off so as to acclimatize in Thangnag. For this, we will explore the peripheral areas of Thangnag , encounter with locals and also visit some nearby dandas for exclusive views of Kusum Kanguru peak and many other peaks. Overnight stay at Thangnag.

Thangnag to Khare (4,950 meters)

We will follow a later moraine looking at the mesmerizing vistas of Charpate Himal. We will also see some exotic glaciers like Shar Glaciers along the trail. We will hike to Khare which takes us about 5 hours from Thangnag. As we approach Khare, you will be delighted to see the north face of Mera Peak. We shall stay overnight at a lodge in Khare which includes dinner and breakfast service.

Hike to Mera La (5,415 meters) from Khare

Mera La located at 5415 meters, is one of the major attractions of the Khumbu region and also our goal for today. We shall pack lunch in Khare and set towards Mera La via moraine and snowfields. You will be bestowed by dominating views of Mera Peak, Mount Cho Oyu, etc. as you approach Mera La. Mera La provides awesome views of Mera and other mountains of this region plus the distant forest and hills which look spectacular. After enjoying some moments in Mera La (taking pictures and relaxing), we will trek back to Khare where we shall stay the night.

Khare to Mera High Camp at 5,780 meters

We will trek for about 7 to 8 hours today to arrive at Mera High Camp (5780 meters) from Khare. At first, we will take a rocky trail via Mera La to arrive at Mera Base Camp. We then continue towards Mera High Camp via a risky and thrilling route.  All our physical trepidation is compensated by the wonderful views of Mt. Everest (8848 meters), Makalu (8481 meters), Cho-Oyu (8188 meters), the south face of Lhotse, Nuptse (7861 meters), Chamlang (7319 meters), and Baruntse () seen from the Mera High Camp. At night, we shall set a tent and stay overnight in a tented camp.

Attempt Mera summit (6,461 meters)

Today is the climax of Mera Peak Climbing since we will attempt and conquer the Mera summit today. For this, we shall start our day at around 01: 00 AM and head out after a hot delicious breakfast. We put on necessary climbing equipment like crampons and rope together. With some advice and help from your trekking guide, you will be good to go. Soon, you shall be on the zenith or top of Mera peak. Mera peak offers you astounding views of Cho Oyu (8201 meters ), Lhotse ( 8516 meters) Everest ( 8848 meters), Makalu (8465m) Pumori (7161 m) Lobuche ( 6145 meters) and so much more.  We will descend down to Khare after climbing Mera Peak and stay there overnight.

Contingency day

This day is reserved in case we are behind schedule due to bad weather or any other reasons. In case we are right on schedule, you can take this day as a break or rest day. We can even move forward with our itinerary.

Trek back to Kothe at 3,691 meters

We will trek back to Kothe today which will take us about 7 hours. The scenery today includes snowfields, mountains, lush rhododendron forest, etc. We shall stay overnight in Kothe.

Kothe to Thuli Kharka at 4,300 meters

Today we will trek on a forested trail located on the west side of Hinku Valley. We will trek in a mixed forest of rhododendron and pine. As we approach Thuli Tharka, you will see beautiful views of Mera North, Mera South, and Mera Central. We will stay overnight at a lodge in Thuli Tharka.

Thuli Kharka to Lukla at 2,860 meters

Today we will first trek uphill to arrive at Zatrwa La Pass located at 4610 meters. Zatrwa La Pass provides remarkable views of Salpa and Lukla valleys which seem to be bounded or enclosed by the mountains of the Everest region like Mount Cho Oyu, Kusum Kanguru, Khwangde peak, etc. After relishing these views, we will descend on a steep trail that leads us to Lukla village.

Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu 1,350 meters

You will fly back to Kathmandu via a scenic and thrilling flight of about 40 minutes. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, you will be escorted to the hotel room by one of our staff or representatives. refreshed in your hotel, We will conduct a farewell dinner for the trekking guests in the evening where we will rejoice and make some more memories.

We will escort you to the international section of Tribhuvan International Airport or any other complied location and bid you goodbye.
