Ruby Valley Trek is situated between two popular trekking destinations of Nepal i.e. Langtang National Park and Manaslu Conservation Area. This trek is a great opportunity to explore the wilderness of nature away from the hustle of city life. You will be bestowed with magnificent views of top-notch mountains like Ganesh Himal, Mount Manaslu, Langtang ranges as a part of this pristine trek.

Psangsang Pass located at 3900 meters is the highest point of Ruby Valley trekking and it offers mesmerizing views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, Hiunchuli etcetera. Also called Ruby Valley Ganesh Himal Trek, this trek is a full homestay trek located in the off-the-beaten trails. Alongside nature teeming vacation, this trek also served a purpose for a socio-cultural enthusiast, since you will get a glimpse of the lifestyle of local ethnic groups like Tamang, Rai, Ghale, Chepang, etc.

This trek begins from Syabrubesi and progresses with popular villages like Gatlang, Somdang, Tipling, etc. En route, you will trek through dense rhododendron forest, perennial rivers, stunning waterfalls, lush hills, etc.

The best time for Ruby Valley Trekking is Autumn and Spring season. This 12-day long itinerary brought to you by Greater Himalaya is quite flexible and you can make some minor adjustments as per your requirement and preference.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu airport (1350m).

Day 02: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1500 m); Approximately 8 hours of drive

Day 03: Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2337 m): Approx. 6 hours of trek

Day 04: Trek from Gatlang to Somdang (3271 m); Approx. 6 to 7 hours of trek

Day 05: Acclimatization day

Day 06: Trek from Somdang to Tipling (3842 meters) via Pangsang la Pass

Day 07: Trek from Tipling to Shertung (1875 m); Approx. 5 to 6 hours of trek

Day 08: Trek from Shertung to Chalish Gaon (2674 meters); Approx. 5 hours of trek

Day 09: Trek from Chalish gaon to Jharlang (3000 m); Approx. 5 to 6 hours of trek

Itinerary

Arrival: Kathmandu > Departure: Kathmandu

Arrival in Kathmandu airport (1350m).

Soon after you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will meet our representative or staff who will assist you with your luggage and escort you to a prearranged hotel room. Later today, we will host a welcome dinner in a Nepali restaurant with many meal options (continental, Nepali, Indian, Chinese, Italian cuisines, etc.). Overnight stay at a hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu.

Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1500 m); Approximately 8 hours of drive

After breakfast in Kathmandu, we will drive towards Syabrubesi which is a gateway to the popular Langtang valley. En route, you will pass through the beautiful rivers, Trishuli Bazar, Dhunche Bazar, Ramche Gaon, and many other remarkable spots. The scenic 8-hour long drive will expose to you the valleys, rivers, waterfalls, forests, and picturesque villages of Nepal. We shall stay overnight at a lodge in Syabrubesi.

Trek from Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2337 m): Approx. 6 hours of trek

After breakfast in Syabrubesi, we will head for Gatlang, a picturesque Tamang village along the trekking trail. We will ascend to Bahun Danda as we follow the trail via Chawatar to reach Gatlang. We will take a brief lunch break in Chawatar and continue trekking looking at the gorgeous pristine setting away from modernization, towards Gatlang. Trekking for about 6 hours will lead us to the beautiful and cultural village of Gatlang with native Tamang. We will stay overnight in Gatlang.

Trek from Gatlang to Somdang (3271 m); Approx. 6 to 7 hours of trek

We will walk in a forested trail amidst rhododendron and pine forest as we leave Gatlang after having breakfast there. We will cross Parvati Kunda en route and continue trekking until we arrive at Yuri Kharka for lunch. We then descend towards Somdang Khola. We will continue hiking and pass the beautiful Chukarma waterfall to reach Somdang town where we shall stay overnight.

Acclimatization day

We will explore the nearby places of Somdang today to acclimatize with the increasing altitude. We will get magnificent views of Paldor peak and other contiguous mountains as we explore the places of Somdang. Overnight stay at Somdang.

Trek from Somdang to Tipling (3842 meters) via Pangsang la Pass

Our destination for today is the beautiful and cultural Tipling village, mainly resided by the Tamang community. As we trek out of Somdang, we will first arrive at Pangsang Kharka or Pangsang La Pass located at 3900 meters. Pangsang La Pass provides 270-degree panoramas of mountains (Manalsu, Langtang ranges, and Ganesh Himal) and hills. We will continue trekking to Tipling and explore a church and gompa located in this diverse village. Overnight stay at a lodge in Tipling.

Trek from Tipling to Shertung (1875 m); Approx. 5 to 6 hours of trek

Initially, we will trek downhill and cross Adha Khola today. We will lose a lot of altitudes today which means we will be trekking downhill for most of the time. Our destination for today is Shertung which offers us magnificent views of Ganesh Himal. Trekking for about 5 to 6 hours from Tipling will bring us to Shertung (1875 meters) where we shall stay overnight.  You can go on strolling through the popular attractions of Shertung like Fyanchyat monastery and Holy Chayamra danda in your leisure time.

Trek from Shertung to Chalish Gaon (1674 meters); Approx. 5 hours of trek

We will trek to Chalish Gaon which is located near Shertung. After resting our luggage at a lodge in Chalish Gaon, we will visit Tatopani also called hot springs. In Chalish Gaon, you get to witness the primary locals like Gurung, Ghale, and Kami and get a glimpse of their culture and lifestyle. Overnight stay at Chalish Gaon.

Trek from Chalish gaon to Jharlang (3000 m); Approx. 5 to 6 hours of trek

We will enjoy the breakfast in Chalish Gaon and continue with the trekking. First, we will trek to Mani Danda which offers stunning views of Chalish village and Ganesh Himal. We will continue trekking and pass Deul danda, Gobre village,Chaap Danda en route. We shall stop at Ukhum for lunch and continue trekking for another 2 hours to arrive at Jharlang village where we stop for an overnight stay.

Trek from Jharllang Gaun to Darkha Gaun (850 m); Approx. 7 hours of trek

Looking at the terraced lands and catchy landscapes, we will trek down to Jharlang Phedi. We will trek for 7 hours to arrive at Darkha Gaun. We shall stay overnight in Dharkha Gaun.

Trek from Darkha Gaun to Darkha Phedi and drive to Kathmandu (1310 m); Approx. / 7 hours of drive

We will start the day with a delicious breakfast in Darkha Gaun and then trek for 1 hour to arrive at Darkha Phedi. After Darkha Phedi, it is a 7-hour long drive to Kathmandu. En route, we will cross Ankhu Khola and many scenic and remote villages located on the hillside. In Kathmandu, you will be escorted to a hotel room where you shall stay overnight.

Final departure from Kathmandu

We shall escort you to Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu via a tourist bus or a private vehicle and you will head to your home or next destination.

Accommodations and Meal in Ruby Valley Trek

 Accommodation options and lodges in Ruby Valley Trekking routes are more advanced in some places than the others but all of them serve you with nice rooms, blankets, hot meals, etc. The primary accommodation option is a homestay which is pretty basic except for in some developed regions. The meal option is mainly the Dal-Bhat set. If you want to take a bath, the locals can arrange hot water for you in a bucket.
